Marcela Del Valle Sculpture and Murals

Artist Statement

I was born on the coast of Peru, amongst its dunes and sandy beaches.  I drew inspiration from the spare beauty of its cracked and stressed desert landscapes, filled with vitality and vibrant spirit.  This influence becomes more evident in the texture of my clay sculpture, where the surface so closely resembles a rugged scape.

My sculptural work is figurative.  I seek to convey a moment of emotion by transcending the anecdotic and allowing the inherent forces of pure form speak. I like to show in my work the fascination that occurs when planes, volumens, lines and space interact with each other, to express an intention, provoke a thought or convey a feeling. I am most satisfied when my expression, the subject, and the materials all come together and speak as one voice.

I have a passion for teaching art to the community, and have enjoyed several opportunities to create and direct a variety of public art projects in the United States of America; my home since 1989.  Several of these projects address multicultural themes and the celebration of diversity.  Samples can be seen on the gallery page, and more specific information about each project can be obtained by contacting me directly.

I accept private, public and corporate commissions, and am able to design customized handmade tile projects for site specific locations.
