Del Valle Studios: Commissions
(Browse our 'Gallery' to see our site-specific designs)
These are some guidelines that will help you choose the type of mural that is best for your site.
1. Where would you like the mural installed? Some of our clients already know exactly where they want a mural and what they want. Other people want some ideas of what might work where, before they decide on a final location and image.
2. Do we work with architects, landscape and interior designers? Yes! We have a formal education in fine arts and art history. We work with designers to advise on colors and textures, help develop ideas at concept stage, produce concept and detailed design, color studies and written quotes, and start and finish on time within budget.
3. What is the process of having a mural? 3a. We visit your site, or look at photographs if site is interstate or too distant for easy site visits. We discuss the themes and ideas for the project. At this stage we like to spend around an hour with you or your designer. We sketch out rough ideas on the spot, to see what sort of image appeals and what direction to take the work.
3b. Develop the ideas into black and white sketches and develop a quote based on the sketches. The price quoted is based on the amount of detail that the image may involve and the technique used. We can also develop a detailed compositional study. As this takes several hours, we ask for a payment of a Design Concept Fee, which is 10% of the quoted labor costs. It is also possible to proceed directly with the mural, based on the original sketch.
3c. Once you have agreed to the final quoted amount, a 50% deposit is equired to initiate the scheduling process and starting date of the mural project. Del Valle Studios will do all it can to accommodate the client's timeline.
4. How long does the mural take? Most of our murals have taken between 1 to 3 months. They are very detailed and labor intensive, especially when the design is made with sculpted-relief tile.
5. Pricing Prices range from $300 to $500 per square foot, depending on the materials used, location (interior vs. exterior), size of work and the amount of detail and techniques involved.
6. Refunds The optional Design Concept Fee and the booking deposit are not refundable if you choose not to go ahead with the mural.
7. Copyright and Intellectual Property We develop our own ideas and compositions. All art works produced by Del Valle Studios are copyrighted. If you wish to reproduce the mural for advertising or other commercial purposes, a royalty arrangement can be negotiated.
8. How long does a mural last? For as long as the building will stand. Granite/fired clay/mosaic/tiles have lasted for thousands of years.
